How to Create a Shareable Countdown Link

There are two ways to put a countdown in front of people. You can embed it, which means pasting a snippet of code into a page you already control. Or you can share a hosted link, where the timer lives on its own web page and you simply send people the URL. This article is about the second one, because it's the option most people actually want and the one that needs the least setup.

Embedding a timer vs sharing a link

Embedding is great if you run a website and want the countdown to sit inside your own layout, next to your own content. But it assumes two things: that you have a site, and that you're comfortable editing its HTML. Plenty of countdowns don't need either.

How to create a countdown to share

Here's the full process to create your own countdown in Rija and get its hosted URL.

1. Set the moment you're counting to

Open app.rija.io and start a new timer. Pick the end date & time and choose a timezone. The timezone matters more than people expect for a shared link, and it's handled cleanly, which we'll come back to below.

2. Style it so it looks like yours

A shared page shouldn't look generic.
